Amnio results are in........

And we have a healthy, normal baby ......? hahah, not telling ya!! There are some in the family who want to know, and some who don't so we're just not going to post it publicly now are we ;o)

It's been a long 3 weeks, but the wait is over and it's such a relief to know all is good. At almost 21 weeks now I am over halfway whoo hoo! On the downward slide now.

Baby has been quite active and I am feeling lots of movement internally, although not strong enough just yet for my hubby to feel it externally. He did however put his ear to my tummy and could hear the little heartbeat pounding away. Baby must know I am talking about it, as it's giving me little kicks right now.

Our 20 week ultrasound went great and it was good to see all looks good, and how much bigger since the last one, so much more detail. The little leg bones measured in at 4cm hehe.... no wonder I can feel it now.

Easter Bunny time....

Geez, a month since I updated, tsk tsk. I dunno why it's been so long, oh yeah cause I am stupid busy!!

Well first a baby update of course :) I am now 17 weeks and everything is ticking along well. I am currently laid up at home for a couple of days resting as I had an Amniocentesis yesterday which requires very little movement for at least 24-48 hours. This procedure is offered to woman over a certain age at time of birth, or basically anyone who wants to know the status of their baby when it comes to certain birth defects. It was a pretty simple and painless procedure thankfully which involved putting a needle through my abdomen into the uterus and withdrawing about 20cc of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby. Of course this is done in conjunction with an ultrasound to ensure the little tyke is steering clear of the needle. Despite all the initial nerves and fear, I was pleasantly surprised at how I got through it surrounded by wonderful hospital staff and my darling husband. The results take a couple of weeks, at which time we will also know the gender 100%. In a couple of weeks I have the *19* week ultrasound which can also reveal gender and looks at a multitude of other things as the baby will be quite well developed. If you haven't seen the ultrasound pictures from a month ago, check it out in the shared gallery.

Spring is definately here on the West Coast of Canada and the flowers and trees look wonderful. My allergies have kicked in, and some days are worse than others. Not being able to take medication for them this year, it's a little rough some days, but hey... it's only one Spring.

It's Easter this weekend and we are off to the interior for the annual big family get together, dinner, easter egg hunt (for the little ones) and beer hunt (for us big kids) as well as the traditional ball game. Of course this year, perhaps I'll have to join the little kids seeing I can't indulge in a beer or cider lol and watch the ball game from the dugout. It should be a really fun time and hopefully the weather will not be too cool and will stay dry.

It's a glorious day outside and I really would love to be doing a bunch of things including work out on the patio pots, but alas I have to be a good girl and follow doctors orders, so I'll continue to sit with my feet up and watch some meaningless daytime television or read my book. Happy Easter everyone, hope the bunny brings you lots of chocolate!

Lack of TV Coverage in Canada for the Games....

Ok, I realise that it is not everyone's thing, or that it is not as *big* as the Olympics, but I am astounded at the lack of coverage in Canada for the 2006 Commonwealth Games that kicked off in Melbourne last night.

I for one enjoy these games immensly for many reasons, largly because my native NZ usually puts forward a large and quite successful team of athletes, along with that, the fact that the USA can't compete and dominate things.

Leading up to the Games I saw little to no coverage on Canadian networks that the games were even on. People I spoke with were surprised to hear it was a Commonwealth Games year, and I have to wonder does Canada not care about these athletes so much? Does only the Olympics earns so much media coverage? After all there was no shortage of hours of footage on both CBC and TSN for that event.

If anyone else knows different, feel free to let me know, but all I can find for coverage is one lousy hour.. yes one! on CBC at 3pm PST each day. Is this it? I mean seriously, this is the best that anyone can come up with? Now I realise I am not going to see a whole lot of the New Zealand team living here, but really, I would have expected better than this. I have to wonder how those Canadians who perhaps have friends and family competing must be getting on....

Peanut picture....

So we had the ultrasound yesterday and everything is great! You can see the still pictures in the shared gallery. It was so cute, and baby looked like it could be sucking it's thumb *sigh*

So peanut is still a peanut....

So today's visit was positive and a little disappointing. Firstly, everything looks fine and according to my Doctor, felt fine. However we could not find the little heartbeat. We are beginning to think my dates are off by a week or so and infact am not as far along as we thought. If you go by dates I'm 12 weeks, but if you go by the size of peanut at an early ultra sound I may only be 10-11 so that puts my due date out till late September now.

Of course not hearing the heartbeat got my heart racing, but I will not worry at this stage, as apparently I have a backward facing uterus which makes it even harder to hear. I am going to have another ultra sound to make sure all is ok, and hope to schedule it this week if they are not to busy.

So that's about it for now....

Baby talk...

Ok, so I figured I would start giving some little updates on our up and coming arrival. I am now almost 3 months along, and although not obviously showing, I am noticing my clothes are becoming a little firmer fitting. I was aware of the changes that you go through when you are pregnant, but until you experience them, holy crap! is all I can say. On the negative, the increased hormones play havoc with your skin and cause nasty breakouts which you never thought possible, but on the upside right now, my morning sickness (or all day, if you want to get specific) is starting to subside nicely and I no longer have that lingering feeling of wanting to puke all day.

My appetite is increasingly returning and I look forward to my evening meal a little more than I did a week or so ago. Cravings?!? why yes, funny little things that they are. I haven't had anything that I would catergorise as weird, more that I want normal things at weird times... for example a halibut burger at 9am, or a milkshake and fries in the middle of the day and feel that the world will end if I don't have them right away, that sort of thing. Thankfully I am not craving anything that I already dislike... brussel sprouts or cucumber ewwww.

Today I have a check up and all going well, we may hear the babys heartbeat for the first time, so that will be exciting. My next ultrasound should provide us with a picture, so I'll be sure to scan and post that here too.

Well, more to come later.....

Gobs of updates

Wow, it's been a busy few months.

Since the last post, we've arrived back from our vacation to New Zealand, shopped for an apartment or condo or townhouse to live in, purchased one, had Donna's mum (NZ for mom, heh) stay with us for 3 weeks over Christmas, been to Kamloops overnight twice to pick up/drop off my mom over Christmas, had Christmas of course, did New Year's, packed, moved, partially unpacked and found out we're pregnant!

And that's just the personal stuff. Professionally, the business I've been working at was sold in December, my job status was up in the air for awhile, which really was awesome to have the added stress on top of the rest of the excitement going on (such as dealing with pain-in-the-butt house sellers), and because of all the changeovers it's been looking like this job isn't going to be anywhere near as interesting as it used to be. But, that's just the surface of it at the moment and we'll see how it goes.

Fortunately, things have begun to settle down a bit. And just a bit - the excitement around having a morning-sick (at any time) wife is all new to me, we've still got a lot of unpacking to do (I'm amazed at how hard it is to get rid of some stuff even on Freecycle), and oh yes, we had an ultrasound this past week and I saw our baby's tiny heart beating. That's really something else - just the whole proof that I'm going to be a dad, seeing such a tiny thing with a pulse, etc. In a few weeks when we have the next ultrasound done, I'll be sure to get some pictures done.

And speaking of pictures, over the past few days during lulls in the roar, I've completely re-done the image galleries bit of the website. Some of our wedding and honeymoon photos have been added in, and I also created a new album of my own for all of the worst shots I'm in. I get a laugh out of most of them.

I'm going to post more soon... really, sure... within the next 6 to 48 months, I'm sure.
